A Party of Orchids

In the midst of a dark, cloudy day, brightness and a burst of color is only ten minutes from my house. Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania is hosting their annual orchid extravaganza which is truly spectacular. On the first step into the conservatory from temperatures in the middle forties outdoors, the warm, humid breeze brings a perfume of promises.

The variety of colors is always a feast for the eyes in the middle of winter.  There aren't enough adjectives to describe the fabulous displays this horticultural wonder produces.

The orchids are featured, but many other flowers are also abundant and lilies are a nice combination with the orchids.

  1. Fabulous!!! I love the incredible deep rich color of that first orchid, but all the flowers are stunning and fun to see. Thank you for the visual feast! :-)

  2. Warm and humid conditions. One would think I would be able to grow such wonderful flowers in my yard in Hawaii, but such is not the case. Bugs love to live here, too, so my flowers are at their mercy. Sad.

  3. Beautiful!! Nice that you live nearby. We're atleast an hour away.
My husband heard about a place called Half Moon in Kennett Sq. that serves exotic burgers and he wants to go. If his schedule allows for a day trip we'll include Longwood Gardens.

  4. Oh wow! These are such gorgeous photos! I do love orchids, but they're so hard to take care of.

  6. Boy did i need to see that!! I guess I didn't realize how much I was missing this. I must go out and buy some fresh flowers for my table. Your photos are wonderful. Thanks for sharing this. There is a little place close by my home...only 7 minutes probably away...he raises orchids and has a ton of them. I should look into it. A friend of mine used to have them all through her home. She claims that they get a bad rap. She says they are not so hard to take care of as folks claim? Thanks for popping by my blog too!
